Workshop

Life Drawing

life drawing using charcoal and chalk. first we blacked out the paper using willow charcoal and and used a rubber and chalk to highlight certain areas.

Digital Practice.

Illustrator

using the pen and pencil tool.

For this lesson we was asked to make a monster using the pencil tool. We was firs asked to create a shape , my sort of come out like a baby loch ness monster :) next we played around with the gradient to give it some colour.

I decided against the orange and went for a more subtle blue with a faded gradient in the middle. Using the ellipse circle tool i created 2 circles , changing the centre to yellow , i then copied it and flipped it to make it even . finally i gave it 2 black dots for eyes ( making one slightly larger than the other , as i wanted it to look a bit confused ) i gave it a nose and then percy was finished.

I think it was a good exercise to get us to realise how we can use the pencil , that if we experiment we can do all sorts with it , rather than just a black line which i previously thought that was all it was used for. I am fairly pleased with percy but i think given more time i could of made him more cartoon like and added more detail , like  mouth at the moment , at the moment he's mute.

Using the pen tool.

After the introduction to the pencil tool we was asked to play around with the pen tool making random shapes.

Starting to play around with illustrator .We was asked to change to some typography to make it look more funky and interesting .As the word i was looking at was scream i decided to put imagery which matched the word .

i think i did quite well in creating a cartoon style image. I wanted to make it look quite cute and innocent with big eyes and teeth , along with thick eyebrows on a diagonal to make him look scared.

Digital Restoration.

we was given a photo and asked to restore to what it would of originally looked like. For me this was a brilliant exercise as ive always wondered how bloody hell they restore them, it took me about an hour to do this one and if im totally honest its so easy , im not very good at Photoshop , ive only ever really used its for basic editing but im really quite pleased with the end result and apparently its good money .... always good to have a plan B :)

I do prefer the picture without the faded white ring as i personally think they look a bit cheesy but i think it does finish it off nicely and makes it look more professional.
